About our Organization

Helping kids be kids since 1976.

Our History

The Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation was incorporated in 1976 as a Registered Charitable Foundation. Initially, SMCF owned group homes, which they leased to the Children’s Aid Society for nominal fees.  In 1982, the Children’s Aid Society no longer needed these homes, so the SMCF sold the homes.  In 1983, with the monies from the sale of the group homes and donations, the Sudbury Manitoulin Children's Foundation developed the “Send-A-Kid-To-Camp” program.  This program is designed to encompass the whole camping experience for the children by covering all camp fees, assisting with transportation to and from camp, and providing necessities and sleeping bags for children who may need them.

The number of children the program assisted has steadily risen each year from an initial 270 per year in 1984 to 300 in COVID Day Camps in 2020 (almost 19,000 children since 1984 and over $4,000,000.00 in direct program fees).

Geographic Area

The Sudbury Manitoulin Children's Foundation (SMCF) has one of the largest geographic areas in the province. This jurisdiction of Sudbury and Manitoulin is almost 50,000 sq. km - with a population of 200,000+ of which 50,000+ of them are children.

Help Make a Difference in a Child’s Life

Aider nous à faire une différence dans la vie d'un enfant

There are many children in the Sudbury-Manitoulin area that could benefit from an outdoor experience each and every year.

Children need to experience positive experiences for self growth.
